Lovin Lovell Gultch
I got up this morning for a nice ride up Lovell Gultch. This is one of Woodland Park's best kept secrets. However someone's been talking because this year I'm finally seeing riders on it I don't know. I like the trail since I have a trail out of my yard that takes me there. Also, you can pretty much ride from here to Monument, and Sadalia on trail. The nice part about Lovell though is the No Motor Vehicle rules that keep out the scoots. Not that I have anything against them, mind you, but I like quiet at 6 a.m.
This is a great loop for riding or running. And if you have a single-speed, all the better! The gultch itself is a nice gradual climb until you reach the top, and then you have a huge choice of downhills. There's the powerline which has some ups, but it is nice and open and a good place to take a newbie. Then there's the root run which is just technical and fun. You can also go to the south of the root run for two options either off the hump, or down in the gully, which is usually the way up. If you're really needing a nice fast down you can ride about 1/2 mile on Rampart Road and take the downhill there as well. This is not to mention the downhill to the far south which provides rolling descents, and then a nice, fast technical downhill at the end. The options are endless around here. I highly suggest you head up and see what all thefuss is about. All you need to do is know the area. You can also ride from Lovell to Rampart Res on single-track. I even found a route from here to the Academy and Falcon Trail. It makes for a long day, but man is it a good day!
That's it for today. I'm hoping to load more maps later today. I have to eat.
Happy Riding!
